Pirates of the Caribbean part one :)
Josh & I recently traveled to Dominica. Josh is good about finding the secret hideaways where tourist are few & far between, and where you can get the closest resemblance to how a place truly looked 1000s of years ago. He certainly met both criteria when he decided on Dominica. :) Christopher Columbus landed on the island in 1493. Upon returning home, they asked what Dominica (named after the day Columbus arrived, Sunday) looked like. Columbus took a piece of paper and crumbled it up and then threw it down. The terrain is very rugged, and not until around 20 years ago did they finally get a road between the two major cities of Rousseau and Portsmouth. Before that time, they had to go to the different cities via boat.
Let's just say the plane ride coming in to Dominica was . . . um . . . a little scary. The plane curved around mountains, and at times the trees seemed higher than our airplane. The plane slowed so much in mid air . . . AHHHHH!! :) We made it down safely though, and then headed the hour and a half journey to our hotel. Roads were curvy (to say the least) and up and down and very narrow.
We stayed at the Ft. Young Hotel in Rousseau, Dominica. It was a little different from our experience in St. Kitts because we were right in the city. We were able to walk to the grocery store, city market, and shops right out of our hotel room door.
Yes, we saw plenty of waterfalls, free million dollar views, hot springs, cold natural springs, boiling water, boiling lakes, had natural steam baths, and truly enjoyed ourselves. We can't say this was a relaxing vacation, with all the hiking, but it was an out of this world type experience. :)

We went to two natural freshwater lakes. The fog was rolling in and out in both locations, kind of spooky. We were the only two people there. Josh & I rented a scooter for two days. We rode as far as we could on the scooters and then headed up by foot to see the second lake.

(above video) The island didn't have any poisonous plants or reptiles, but they do have boa constrictors, lots of lizards, and iguanas. Some students from UT-Arlington were there studying the iguanas--I got to hold one they had just caught. :)
