Pirates of the Caribbean Part II
our trip continued . . . :)
We took a boat ride down the Indian River. It probably looks very familiar to most of you, this is where they filmed lots of the Pirates of the Caribbean part two and three. In the movie, the voodoo lady lives up this river. :)
The beaches were few and far between--most of the shore was very rugged and rocky. This is a beach on our way to Portsmouth.

Our hotel used to be a French fort, then British fort, then French fort, then British fort . . . :)
I just thought this ad looked a little funny. :)
We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets each night from our hotel balcony. :) The sun set around 6:30 PM, and was up by 5:00 AM . . . um, yes, it threw off our inner time clock a little. :)
We were able to go to the local market. Can you say fresh fruit, fish, and vegetables?!! Yes, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we had to give away a lot of fruit when we left. Dominica is known for their bananas---and yes, we enjoyed LOTS of them. Josh (in the above picture) is saying, "This is the best banana I have ever tasted!!"

(above video) Arriving at the boiling lake---8 miles to the top + 8 miles back = calves soar for the rest of the week. While the hike was . . . um . . . difficult, the boiling lake, steam and hot water coming out of the ground, the natural hot springs, etc. definitely made up for our pain. It was funny though, everyone we asked on the island said they had hiked it one time. We knew why after we made the trek to this volcanic lake. :)
