We decided to take the scenic route back to Texas—going through the mountains of Colorado!  It was so beautiful!!

And, it was a little chilly!!  We went up to around 10,000 feet, so the temperature dropped a little bit—and we were loving it. 

The dry air got to our family—you can tell by Karston’s face we weren’t used to the lack of water in the air.  All of our faces and legs had major issues.  We used lots of lotion and chap stick during our whole trip.

 

Yes, that is correct—63 degrees and almost 28 miles a gallon—pretty chilly and pretty good for a car packed with suitcases, food, and bikes.

We stayed at a cute little hotel in  Durango, and then tried out the Alpine slide too.

 

Kayden was a little worried about the slide, but by the time we rode the ski lift to the top of the mountain, she was the first one on the sled, and took off without any problems.  After the ride she said, “When it said slow, I didn’t slow down.”  

Hot springs in Colorado . . . we did some shopping in Durango as well.

We got to visit the space museum in Alamogordo, NM.

Karston got to hold a space shuttle tile while a museum volunteer heated it up.  The tile was a great insulator.  Cameron got to pilot the space shuttle.

 

 

We also stopped in White Sands, New Mexico.  The kids enjoyed the break, playing in the very white sand!

 

We took advantage of spending the night in hotels—spending time in the hotel pool.

We LOVED our vacation—seeing more of our beautiful country, visiting with old friends, spending time together as a family, and just genuinely having a great time.  Yeah for road trips!!
