Godspeed Atlantis!

We celebrated the last launch of the space shuttle this morning with our very own 'launch' party.  We invited our friends over to help us celebrate and watch Atlantis take off.  :)  This is some of the stuff we did:

We read some space books.

We made paper helicopters.
We looked at the scale of our solar system.
We learned Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are REALLY big compared to the four inner planets.
We pretended to be NASA and explored distant space objects.
We used telescopes.  We couldn't see through our atmosphere very well, so we got on a high mountain (the coffee table) to see better.
We observed from the ground, performed a fly-by, orbited the objects, and then we were able to get a sample of the objects to study back on Earth.  :)

And, of course we got to fly rockets . . . actually this has been a very familiar seen at our home lately.

We decorated space shuttle shaped sugar cookies-yum!
Now (hopefully) each little girl and boy in this room will remember what they were doing when the last space shuttle took off.  :)
