Japan

I think Japan has been in all of our minds lately due to the recent earthquake and tsunami, and it has been in the Bright family's thoughts and prayers as well. My mom wrote a poem about the four month old baby girl that was found admist the rubble. Obama actually talked about her in his speech. It is wonderful that in all this chaos, a small piece of hope, I mean, a giant piece of hope, can be found admist all the ruin. Here is my Mom's poem:
One Brief Moment of Celebration
Tectonic plates grinding together
rocks on either side stretching
as a giant rubber band being pulled
when leg go, masses collide
triggering a tidal tsunami
giant wave wiping out towns, trains, ships
2000 bodies washed ashore
tossed cars like toys
a yacht teetering atop a building
refineries burning
whole island moved
rescue workers first dismiss
a little whimpering
amid the thick oozing mud
the second time, they listen
quickly removing wood slate
digging through gummy debris
a little baby girl wrapped
in a pink woolen bear suit
head full of jet black hair
pulled from the rubble
unharmed and squealing
put into her daddy's arms
celebration of a miracle
is cut short with another
tsunami warning being blared
father clutching daughter
scrambles for higher ground.
