Chevron Houston Marathon & Aramco Half-Marathon
Today, Josh & I ran the coldest races of our lives . . . . When we headed out of our hotel door at 6:00 AM, it was 42 degrees, and drizzling. By the time we started the race, it was full on raining, just as cold, and we were soaking wet. Into my first mile, the rain had already made it through the three layers of clothes I was wearing. :( The rain finally stopped about 5-6 miles in for me, but I was so soaking wet and cold, it still wasn’t a pleasant time (if running a half or full marathon could be called ‘pleasant’). :)
Luckily though, we were both successful, finishing both our races. We got medals and a ‘finishing’ shirt as well. This was Josh’s FOURTH marathon, and my fourth half-marathon. Kudos to Josh who had to endure the harsh weather conditions for 13 miles longer than me. Yeah Josh!
For this race, our name was on our bib numbers. I made Josh’s especially meaningful by putting ‘Wompuscat’ as his name on his bib (he-he, he didn’t know until he picked up his race packet). During the race, the crowd cheered several times for me, calling me by name—“Go Amber!” Josh actually met an LDS guy who ran most of the race with him. And they would always yell, “Go Scott!” But, everyone hesitated when they saw Josh’s name on the bib. He said that for 26.2 miles, not one person said, “Go Wompuscat!” :(
We had a great time spending time with each other, and accomplishing our goals.
