first stop New Mexico
We started our journey in the wee morning hours of July 4th. We drove to Albuquerque, New Mexico in one day. Josh & I have been putting off any road trip ideas for a few years now, but we found that our kids are great road trip kids. They were excellent in the car, and there were no big arguments, not a lot of groaning/moaning, or asking if we are there yet. YEAH! We took our time along the trip, stopping at historical markers, overlooks, and of course taking a picture at every state line.
Our lunch stop was in Carlsbad, NM. We found a park near the banks of the river, and were pretty much amazed at how much cooler it was in the shade versus the sun. Yes, all we know is very humid conditions of South and East Texas.
Of course, you can’t go though Roswell, NM and not stop at the UFO Museum.
But, the best part was seeing this monument to one of my favorite fathers of rocketry, Robert Goddard.
“As I looked toward the fields at the East, I imagined how wonderful it would be to make some device which had even the possibility of ascending to Mars, and how it would look on a small scale, if sent up from the meadow at my feet.” Robert Goddard
